The National SOGIESC Guideline Project
A 40-hour online professional training course for settlement service providers across Canada — designed and managed end-to-end on MoodleCloud, with interactive H5P modules, accessible assessments, and culturally responsive content co-developed with lived-experience consultants.
Overview
The National SOGIESC Guideline Project is an initiative of the Centre for Newcomers — a non-profit immigrant settlement agency in Calgary serving newcomers across Canada through settlement services and language training. The project produced national guidelines on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) for settlement service provider organizations, alongside a corresponding online training course.
I served as the sole eLearning Designer on the project, taking the course from vision to launch and translating technical content, conference findings, and lived experience into a coherent, engaging, and accessibility-first learning experience.
Responsibilities
- Designed and managed an online course from vision to launch on MoodleCloud LMS.
- Developed accessible learning materials and interactive activities to increase learner engagement.
- Reviewed knowledge documentation and 2022 conference notes related to the project to inform course structure and content.
- Developed ~350 indicators and ratings of success for Settlement Service Provider Organizations across Canada.
- Collaborated with subject-matter experts and individuals with lived experiences to adapt content into culturally responsive, situated learning experiences.

Outcomes
The final course was launched in both English and French, featuring multiple H5P modules embedded within MoodleCloud to deliver engaging interactive activities. These modules served as learning artifacts that demonstrated innovative approaches to participant engagement while meeting accessibility standards for adult professional learners in the settlement and education sectors.
